Mario Bellini – CAB 413 green leather

Mario Bellini – CAB 413 green leather

Exceptional set of 8 vintage “CAB 413” dining chairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina, Italy 1970s. Initially designed in 1977, it was the first chair in the world to feature a self-supporting leather structure—an ingenious concept inspired by the anatomical relationship between skin and skeleton. The chair’s internal steel frame acts as the bone structure, while hand-stitched thick saddle leather forms a tailored “skin,” zipped onto the frame with precision. This innovative use of zippers to secure the leather cover is not only functional but also a defining aesthetic element. A discreet rubber membrane beneath the seat provides additional support, ensuring comfort without compromising the chair’s sleek profile. Executed in a deep, rich green leather, this version adds a distinctive, sophisticated tone while preserving the chair’s sculptural purity. The CAB chair is the result of meticulous artisan craftsmanship and remains a benchmark of design innovation and material mastery. Marked underneath.
