Iconic “Magneto” floor lamp designed by H. Fillekes for Artiforte in 1954, an early and highly refined example of Dutch modernist lighting design. The lamp perfectly embodies the minimalist and functional design philosophy that characterized Artiforte during the mid-twentieth century. The design features a slender lacquered metal tripod base, creating a light and elegant architectural structure. From this base rises a long, balanced arm in brushed metal, culminating in a beautifully proportioned black metal shade. The composition is both delicate and dynamic, giving the lamp a sculptural presence while maintaining a remarkable sense of visual lightness. A defining feature of the design is the ingenious magnetic joint that connects the arm to the base. This clever mechanism allows the arm to pivot freely and be positioned in a wide range of angles, enabling the user to easily adjust the light exactly where desired. The magnetic connection is not only technically innovative but also contributes to the clean and seamless aesthetic of the piece. The perforated detail around the shade’s mounting plate adds a subtle decorative touch while remaining faithful to the restrained modernist character of the lamp. The design beautifully balances industrial precision with elegant simplicity. This early edition example is presented in original and very good vintage condition, with a beautiful patina to the metal elements consistent with age and use. A highly collectible and iconic piece of Dutch design, the Magneto lamp remains one of the most recognizable and innovative lighting designs produced by Artiforte during the 1950s.
