Angelo Mangiarotti – Eros console

Angelo Mangiarotti – Eros console

Sculptural console from the Eros series designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, executed in Nero Marquina marble and dating from the 1970s. This example retains its original manufacturer’s label underneath. The design exemplifies Mangiarotti’s radical and poetic approach to stone, where mass, balance, and gravity become the primary architectural elements. The elongated marble top rests on two conical supports, joined through precisely carved circular recesses. No mechanical fixings are used: the piece is held together purely by weight, geometry, and material intelligence. The deep black Marquina marble is animated by fine white veining, giving the console a strong visual rhythm while preserving a restrained, monolithic presence. The softened edges and subtle curves contrast with the inherent weight of the stone, creating a piece that feels both powerful and refined. Angelo Mangiarotti’s work occupies a central place in postwar Italian design, and the Eros series is among his most celebrated achievements. This console functions equally as furniture and as architectural sculpture, ideal for an entrance hall, gallery setting, or collector-focused interior. A timeless and intellectually rigorous design, embodying Mangiarotti’s belief that materials themselves should dictate form.
