Rare set of four early Model 69 chairs by Alvar Aalto, Finland 1935. These particular chairs were acquired in the late 1930s by a Dutch architect who worked at the esteemed architectural practice of Hendrik Wijdeveld, a renowned figure in Dutch design history. While the chairs are unmarked, their provenance suggests they were produced either by Oy Huonekalu-ja Rakennustyötehdas Ab or by Artek, the iconic company Aalto co-founded in 1935 to bring his modernist designs to life. In the late 1950s, the chairs were painted in an expressive black and white scheme, now aged to perfection with a beautifully worn patina that tells the story of decades of use and care. Structurally, the chairs are in very good vintage condition — sturdy, sound, and free from any damage to the wood, with only authentic paint losses that enhance their unique character. A wonderful opportunity to own an early example of Aalto’s timeless and humanist approach to furniture design — pieces that bridge modernist ideals with organic warmth and enduring craftsmanship.
